Little Roots (excerpt)

It is no surprise that our hands look like little roots
for what are we doing with our sense of touch if not connecting and expanding?
And if each time that we grasp we plant, what should we hold onto?

Our fingers and our toes would stretch right down into the gloried soil if we only loved the earth well enough
and, likewise, we would become deeply embedded into one another if we simply learned to draw near.
