Thank you for your interest, please email us with any questions, we will look forward to seeing you soon!

After recognizing the need to respectfully cancel our in-person Art of Mentoring this summer, we first allowed our sadness to settle.  Now, more than ever, we hold the desire to gather as powerful medicine that would offer nurturing pathways for individual and collective resiliency.

…and then, we embarked on a joyful journey to co-create an online offering – in collaborative action with Jon Young and the 8 Shields Institute – that would invite exploration of the dynamic processes and practices that shape the “Art of Mentoring”.

We absolutely acknowledge that a virtual forum can not replicate the experiential and communal vibe that emerges, evolves, and elevates when we gather together with open heartminds in the sacredness of shared space, immersed in the life-giving arms of nature.  And…it’s not our intention to try and replicate this unique phenomenon.

However, in this time that calls forth vulnerability, humility, resiliency, and solidarity, we feel compelled to bring people together – from across the globe, as well as from across the street – to explore core practices of Mentoring and what it means to honor human Being… intentionally, thoughtfully, and with courageous authenticity.

Thus, it is with great enthusiasm that we offer Art of Mentoring: Touchstones of the Practice!

Touchstone Practices

  • Module 1: Threads to Ropes – Explore the process and the practice of connection and relationship building, specifically as it relates to mentoring. It is within these relationships that the ropes of reciprocity can vibrate. Every rope of connection begins with a thread. The threads are spun into string, the string is spun into cord, and the cord is finally spun into rope. When we hold awareness for this process and the practice involved, we are also able to weave ourselves into the cultural fabric of the natural world.
  • Module 2: Holistic Tracking – Open up, widen your lens, and engage your senses… Observe the landscape and activate your intuitive sense. When we notice and follow the threads and ropes of connection, we are tracking. The tracks and sign have their own story, and long to be heard. Recognizing and appreciating the value of the track and its relationship with the connected web, puts us in the flow.  When we track others, we recognize their potential and it is there where we can dance in the reciprocity of mentoring.
  • Module 3: Mirroring – Reflecting the gifts and potential of another back to them is what a good mentor does. When we are able to witness the greatness within us, we are able to achieve it. Practice recognizing and reflecting the strengths of others by harvesting your own reflections found within the beauty of nature. Engage in deep listening with curious questions that inspire and support an image-ination that reflects possibility. Tracking the ropes allows us to discover the value of others, and reflecting that discovery back to them supports healthy synergistic growth.
  • Module 4: The Container – Filled with the tracking of influence and relationship, as well as the mirrored reflections, we have created a container where energy flows in constructive ways. The container is a dynamic exchange of energy nourishing the many ropes of reciprocity that connect us as interdependent beings… small or large, the process can be scaled to support all involved.
  • Module 5: Being and Becoming – Once we find ourselves being active, engaged mentors, holding onto ropes of connection, we become again by recognizing and embracing the perspective that each carefully curated rope is now a thread inviting the opportunity to begin weaving once again. Practicing our routines and relationships with the intention of getting to a new, stronger, thicker rope, sets in motion the process and practice for a regenerative future. [note: the recordings for this module will be offered at the end of the program]

Program Format

An integral vision of our design strategy is to ensure that our four online Zoom gatherings foster a sense of community, hold space for story-telling, and spark reciprocity of teaching-learning. Thus, the journey of discovery will begin with an invitation to listen to a curated set of guided teachings – one for each module – and to explore, or deepen, a handful of practices that seek to strengthen your relationship with self, others, and nature.

With these guided teachings as a shared foundation, conversation will then weave across small group and whole community forums. It is our hope that this focus and flow will pave pathways for individual meaning and collective sense-making …activating all ways of knowing and an embodied understanding of the Art of Mentoring.

Guided Teachings (3 ½ hours total): You will have access to approximately 45 minutes of audio content for each module, including:
  • Overview of each Touchstone Practice (with PDF reference handout outlining/inviting specific “daily practice” suggestions)
  • Guided Meditation
  • Nature Connection Quest activity
  • Keynote by Jon Young that reinforces, elevates, illuminates each highlighted touchstone practice

Small Group Circle (Zoom call #1 and #3): On these calls, you will be placed into a small group with 4-6 other participants with encouragement to share your experiences, reflections, and curiosities around the touchstone practices at a philosophical, heartmind level. Each small group will have a facilitator who was trustfully invited in recognition of their experience in nature connection mentoring and cultural design.

  • Based on Pacific Daylight Time, these calls will be held on Wed, 9/23 and Wed, 9/30
  • Zoom call #1 will focus on Threads to Ropes (module 1) and Holistic Tracking (module 2)
  • Zoom call #3 will focus on Mirroring (module 3) and The Container (module 4)

Whole Community Harvest (Zoom call #2 and #4): On these calls, you will join all participants within your cohort. Each time, two participants will be invited to “harvest” their story, giving them dedicated time to share and enjoy an interactive mentoring session with Jon Young and Paul McDermott. This experience will encourage these particular participants to delve deeper into awareness, understanding, and embodied action. Meanwhile, all other participants will provide energetic support and will gain insight from the real-time mentoring unfolding.

To further stoke imagination and inspiration, we’ve invited Jon Young to share his perspective and stories on his relationship with the touchstone practices. As well, intentional time will be set aside for small group breakout, providing space to share and learn from one another on how things are going with the encouraged daily practices.

  • Based on Pacific Daylight Time, these calls will be held on Sat, 9/26 and Sat, 10/3
  • Zoom call #2 will focus on Threads to Ropes (module 1) and Holistic Tracking (module 2)
  • Zoom call #4 will focus on Mirroring (module 3) and The Container (module 4)

I track best when in service to others.
